India Ranks 107 out of 121 countries on Global Hunger Index.

India fares worse than all countries in South Asia barring war torn Afghanistan.

India’s GHI Score of 29.1 places it in the serious Category. GHI Scores are based on the values of Four Component indicators Undernourishment, Child Stunting, Child wasting and child mortality. Countries are divided into 05 Categories OF Hunger on the basis of their Score Which are ‘low’, ‘moderate’, ‘alarming’ and ‘extremely alarming’India ranks even below Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan. China is among the countries Collectively ranked between 1 and 17 having a score of less than 05

Undernourishment has also risen in the country from 14.6% in 2018-20 to 16.3% 2019-21 which means 224.3 million People in India are Undernourished.Though India has shown some improvement Child Stunting and Child Mortalitiy, however on the Whole It has shown slight Worsening with its GHI Score increasing from 28.2 in 2014 to 29.1 in 2022.

India’s Worsening Position on GHI is a matter of serious concern. Before We detoriate from Serious condition to alarming or extremely alarming, we need to take some concrete steps in this direction. We may say that we are high populated  and that may be reason for this dismal performance on hunger front. But China with the least population has fared reasonably well so mere excuses may not help us its time we take some strong decisions and move ahead in the direction of ending hunger and malnutrition because an undernourished Country can not grow with leaps and bounds.
