Morbi Bridge Mishap raises many Questions.

 

Sundays Horrific Bridge Collapse at Morbi killed 135 People. The Bridge was given for maintenance to Oreva Group for a period of 15 Years. The company undertook its maintenance on March 7 2022. As Per Newspaper reports all aspects of operation of bridge was given to this company except ticket collection which was done by municipality.

As per Chief Officer of Morbi Municipality, the bridge did not have fitness certificate since safety audit could not be done as company did not notify the municipality of its reopening on 26^th October.

Municipality says that the bridge was entirely handed over to the company and ensuring safety of visitors was their responsibility. The company was given 10 months’ time for opening the bridge post its proper repair and maintenance However Bridge was reopened within 7 months. As per the officials of the company Bridge Collapse as too many people in the mis section of the bridge were trying to sway it.

Now as Per Government the whole responsibility is on company who was to do all maintenance of Bridge. As Per Managing Company People swayed it and mishap took place killing 135 People.

In recent past we have seen many historical monuments given to private firms for maintenance for Instance Red Fort has been leased out to Dalmia Group recently.

Why can’t government do all the maintenance work. Why everything nowadays needs to be outsourced? Heritage sites, airports, railway stations all are being leased out to private players for maintenance and when something will happen govt will blame the company and company will blame people and all questions will remain unanswered.
