October 16,
recognized as World Food Day every year comes as a reminder to the World that
still People Worldwide do not have enough to eat.
India has taken
many initiatives in recent past like enacting a Law National Food Security Act
(NFSA) 2013 which anchors the Targeted Public Distribution System (TDPS), the
PM POSHAN scheme (earlier known as MID-DAY MEAL SCHEME), and the Integrated
Child development services which provides essential Nutrition for many but the
question still remains the same, Have We done enough?
Its high time We
should starting thinking of some concrete steps to resolve the issue and
transform our food systems. Today around 828 million people worldwide do not
have enough to eat and over 50 million people are facing severe hunger.
Situation is alarming.
Making Right to food
a fundamental right will give People a weapon and moral ground to fight for
their right for food for them and their children and Government will also get
more accountable towards it. All governments will have an obligation to provide
food to all its citizen and People living in extreme Poverty will not be left on
the mercy of Governments schemes only.
Right to food if
enacted as a Fundamental Right will lead the nation to a path to a better life,
will transform food systems, make government more resilient and sustainable
with a focus on equity.
The article clearly showed each side of the issue and raised many questions that most of us try to ignore. Thought provoking!
